About
A small spa, built slowly, on a quiet lake.
Shawnigan Nordic Spa opened in 2024 on three acres of second-growth cedar above Shawnigan Lake. It is run by a small team who believe in heat, cold, and quiet.
What we built
Three cedar saunas. One stone cold plunge fed by the lake. One eucalyptus steam room. Two private barrel saunas in the north grove. A long rest deck. Nothing more.
How we run it
Sessions are capped at twelve people. Phones are left at the door. The fires are tended by hand. We close on Tuesdays.
Why cedar
Western Red Cedar holds heat differently. It softens the room. It smells of the forest it came from. It is the only wood we build with.
Principles
Three things we hold to.
I.
Quiet rooms.
No music. No screens. No conversation above a whisper.
II.
Small groups.
Twelve guests at a time, no more. Two attendants on the floor.
III.
Local materials.
Cedar, basalt, lake water, beeswax. Sourced within a hundred miles.
